The role of TheraNet is to provide a platform for people to access therapy conveniently. TheraNet matches and connects you with an independent therapist who will work directly with you.
In addition, the aim of the platform is to allow clients and therapists to communicate effectively, so they can get the most out of their interaction.
Note, therapists are not employees of TheraNet and the site doesn't oversee them professionally.
Online therapy is provided via text, chat, phone call and video conferencing. You can choose the delivery mode that works best for you. All delivery modes are:
-
one-to-one
-
tailored to suit your needs
-
secure
-
use exactly the same CBT techniques, and
-
involve weekly 30 - 60 minute therapy sessions
-
Research shows that online CBT is as effective as in person therapy at helping you feel better, and comes with the additional benefit of learning and healing from within your own space.
TheraNet doesn't provide a pre-set number of sessions. We offer you the right number of sessions needed for your treatment. Practicing CBT techniques you learn between therapy sessions will help you feel the benefit more quickly. But, as a rough guide, mental health issues like anxiety and depression can typically be addressed in 5-12 sessions.
Therapists on TheraNet are experienced and accredited Psychologists, CBT Therapists and Counsellors. All of them are required to have a relevant academic degree in their field, at least 3 years of post-qualification clinical experience, and must be fully qualified and registered with either of the professional associations listed below.
-
British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) - CBT accreditation
-
British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) - accreditation
-
British Psychological Society (BPS) - chartership (with HCPC registration for protected titles).
Many of our therapists are also registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

Once you have submitted the TheraNet online assessment form, we will identify 1 - 4 therapists who best fit your needs. We will then send you an email with links to profiles of these therapists for you to go through and choose the therapist you would prefer. In most cases, an email is sent within 24 hours or less.
Different therapists have different approaches and areas of expertise, so it's important to identify the right person who can achieve the best results for you.
We have found that we are able to provide a successful match most of the time. However, if you start the process and you feel your therapist isn't a good match for you, you may request to be matched to a different therapist.
You will meet your therapist online, so you can attend therapy sessions at a time that is convenient for you and from wherever you want.
Your first session with your therapist is usually within a week of signing up.
TheraNet may be suitable for you if you're looking to lead a better life. -
check whether you can engage comfortably with your therapist before committing to any paid treatment
-

-
You need to complete a brief assessment form at sign-up to help us match you with a therapist who meets your needs and preferences.
Throughout your therapy, you’ll be asked to complete a questionnaire before each session. These questionnaires help your therapist understand you and your current state of mind, and also help to check your progress and flag up any problems.
The convenience of online therapy makes it a lot easier for people to start therapy who might not do so otherwise. However, while the service may have similar benefits to in-person therapy, it's not capable of substituting for traditional face-to-face therapy in every case.
If at any point during treatment your therapist believes, in their professional opinion, that you would be more suitable for traditional in-person therapy, they will discuss this with you and support you to make the best plan for your needs.
This depends on your needs and varies from one person to another. Some people feel they get most of the value after just a few weeks, while others prefer to carry on with regular appointments for an extended period of time. It’s completely up to you.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is one of the most effective psychological treatments for anxiety, depression and other common mental health problems. It is a talking therapy that works to help you identify negative thinking patterns and behaviours, and how you can change these to improve the way you feel.
CBT can help you make sense of your problems by breaking them down into smaller parts, so it’s easier to notice the effect that some of your thoughts have on what you do.
Practical skills learnt through CBT can help you deal with overwhelming problems in a more positive way, helping you cope better long after your therapy has ended.
You can have a video session with your therapist, where you see and talk with each other in a virtual face-to-face setting (similar to Skype or Zoom).
You will need to have a private space where you will not be disturbed during your session.
To talk with your therapist via video, you will need to schedule a time. You may choose to have your therapy sessions by simply using your landline or mobile phone.

To talk with your therapist over the phone, you will need to schedule a time. You may choose to have your therapy sessions via real-time text conversation. This way, you can enjoy the convenience of messaging while having a "live" interaction that allows instant response and feedback from your therapist.
To have a live chat session, you will need to schedule a time.Messaging is not in real-time, so it doesn't require scheduling. You can send messages to your therapist at any time, so you can choose whenever you want to write or respond to them.
You and your therapist can decide whether messaging will be an efficient and comfortable therapy delivery mode for you after an initial assessment.
After you have selected a therapist, you’ll be put in direct email contact with them. From here, video platform (Skype, Zoom, etc.) details can be confirmed, as well as the time for an initial consultation.
At the initial consultation, you can discuss with your therapist how best to contact them between sessions. Each therapist has their own preference for being contacted, so it is best to confirm this with them.
We ensure that every therapist we bring to the platform is fully licensed and in good standing. Therapists who apply are required to provide proper qualification documentation, proof of identity and references. We then cross-check their registration information with their respective professional association.
All TheraNet therapists have been selected after a rigorous application process. This allows us to be confident in the quality of therapy our clients receive and ensure that it meets the highest standards.
Your therapist will keep what you share with them confidential, as per confidentiality requirements of the law and their professional association. But there are limited exceptions, for example, if you threaten harm to yourself or another person, the therapist is required to report this information to the relevant authorities.
If you have any further questions regarding confidentiality, you can ask them during your free consultation.
Information you share with us is protected by Data Protection laws, for more information see our Privacy Policy.
Once treatment starts, TheraNet will not ask for any information regarding your therapy sessions. You can discuss this with them during your free consultation.
When you register with TheraNet, you are asked for your first name and email address. You can pick a ‘nick name’ which we will use to communicate with you.
When you decide to start the therapy process, we will ask you for emergency contact information to be used for emergency situations, such as if your therapist believes that you or someone else might be in danger.
